Can you have Christmas without sugary treats? Yes, you can, but do we want to? 😉 I love crafts and I especially love making edible treats with my girls. We make a mess, we laugh, we learn (because I love unschooling) and we get to make memories. Edible Christmas treats are fun and easy to do. They are my favorite sweet cone ideas. It doesn’t have to be all Christmas cookies and Gingerbread Houses. These two treats are baking free and super fun for kids. They are especially great if you don’t like baking. I have been making these for years. Let me show you have to make these edible Christmas trees.
Sugar Cone Christmas Trees
(Ice cream cone trees)
For this you will need:
- Sugar ice cream cones (the conical ones with a flat circle, not waffle cones)
- Green food coloring
- Powdered sugar/icing sugar
- Water
- Sprinkles
- Writing icing
- Knives (for spreading)
What to do:
- Mix up a green icing mixture. You don’t want it to be too runny or too thick. It does need to be able to spread and run down the cone.
- Spread icing over the cone and place upside down on a plate so it looks like a tree.
- Before the icing dries, sprinkle on different decorations.
- Leave it to dry.
These trees can have hidden treats inside. I like to do small chocolates or mini marshmallows. You could put a small toy underneath as well. These could be fun as place holders on a table by writing names in icing.
Rice Krispie Treats Christmas Trees
You will need:
- 3 Tbsp salted butter, diced into pieces
- 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
- Green food coloring
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- White decorating icing
- 16 miniature Reeses peanut butter cups, unwrapped
- Sprinkles
- Star sprinkles
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Toothpicks (optional)
What to do
- Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add in marshmallows and stir until melted.
- Drop in green food coloring to reach the desired shade.
- Remove from heat. Add in Rice Krispies cereal and fold the mixture until evenly coated. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
- Spray hands with non-stick cooking spray and shape about 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of the mixture into cones, while pressing firmly so they’ll hold together.
- Decorate with sprinkles, using the icing to get them to stick.
- Put icing on the Reeses mini cups and place one under each tree. I like to poke a toothpick through the Reeses cup to hold it to the tree more securely. But it is up to you.
Edible treats
Do you have any treats that you like to make? What is it about them that you like? I like it when my girls can get involved and hands-on. It’s all about the laughs and the mess. I don’t worry about the mess because you can always clean up. My poor husband has seen many a mess but he so lovingly turns a blind eye or helps clean up.
I hope that these treats might be something you enjoy making, not only this year but time again. They are simple, easy and fun. If you like DIY craft activities, you might like to check out another post I have done…..DIY play houses. I look forward to doing more of these DIY and crafts in upcoming videos.
Enjoy! And Merry Christmas.
The point of view of your article has taught me a lot, and I already know how to improve the paper on gate.oi, thank you. https://www.gate.io/ar/signup/XwNAU
